Volvo XC90 T8 Plug-in-Hybrid
Volvo India will launch its XC90 plug-in-Hybrid vehicle in India, on 14th September 2016. The new addition to the Volvo family is the T8 hybrid variant of the SUV, which will be followed by the launch of the new Volvo S90 sedan later this year. The current Volvo XC90 is sold with a diesel engine only and the new plug-in-Hybrid will be sold alongside.
Coming to the heart of things, the hybrid powertrain witnesses the marriage of a 2.0-litre turbocharged motor to an electric motor, to dish out 412 horses and a best-in-class 650Nm of torque. The car will race to 100 kmph from dead halt in 5.6 seconds, the company claimed on the occasion.
Powering the new Volvo XC90 T8 trim are two electric motors, which along with a petrol engine, will generate a maximum power of 394 hp and a peak torque of 640 Nm between 2,200-5,400 rpm. According to the company, the electric motors alone can power the vehicle up to a distance of 32km, when fully charged. The engine will be mated to the 8-speed automatic gearbox, present on the standard Volvo XC90.
The Swedish car manufacturer is likely to launch the new hybrid variant in Excellence trim, which will be offered with more features. With unchanged dimensions, the luxury SUV will offer seats wrapped in Perforated Nappa leather with massage function, ventilation and heating. The rear seats will also have a cooling compartment to chill drinks, which can hold up to 750 ml bottles, along with two crystal glasses. The centre console of the SUV is provided with a touchscreen to configure the rear seats.
Other highlights of the new XC90 T8 will include a Bower and Wilkins music system, a 4-seat configuration and a separate boot space, which has been parted with a glass. The new Volvo XC90 T8 plug-in-Hybrid is expected to be priced around Rs. 95 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi and will be imported into India as a CBU (Completely Built-up Unit). The SUV will compete with the Porsche Cayenne Hybrid.
Volvo also offers a leather instrument panel with contrasting stitching and distinctive leather detailing in blond or charcoal with a colour co-ordinated headliner made of pure Nubuck textile on the four-seater Excellence. For entertainment, the car benefits from a specially-augmented Bowers & Wilkins audio system and additional sound insulation via the Pirelli Noise Cancelling System tyres (PNCS). Outside, the Volvo XC90 Excellence sports chrome B- and C-pillar cappings and lower door mouldings as styling differentiators.
